Welcome to HOUSE ON SUIKERBOSSIE - Vanderkloof

We are sure you will get time to relax in this Upper Karoo holiday town.

There are a few points to note about the town and area, which will help in enjoying your stay here.
Vanderkloof Dam is South Africa’s second largest dam and boasts with the highest dam wall in the country!
The 100km long dam is a firm favourite for watersports such as waterskiing, kayaking, windsurfing and boating.
For those that love their fishing, this dam will certainly not disappoint.
Here you have opportunity to fish for large and small mouth Yellows, Barbel and Carp.

As we love our fly-fishing the dam provides us with many hours of entertainment and triumphs.

You are welcome to call us should you like a heads up on which areas on the dam offer good fishing.

Rolfontein Nature reserve (opened in 1970) has an entrance approximately 3km from our back door.

This reserve offers a lovely wide traversing area of 8000 hectares of  mountainous terrain, Karoo plains and little 'koppies'.

Visitors can picnic at selected spots within the reserve and there is a wonderful lookout point overlooking a large plateau.
Here you will find sightings of black Wildebeest, Gemsbok, Burchell’s zebra, springbok, various antelope and brown hyena. The more elusive bat-eared fox, baboon, aardvark and aardwolf might also make their appearance if you’re patient enough.

The little towns of Petrusville, Phillipstown and Orania are all within a short driving distance of 25 - 60km and offer a peek into these unique local communities. Perfect for a day trip.

Vanderkloof is a typical Karoo town boasting a SAPS office, Post office, small grocery stores, hardware store, bottle store, gun shop, chemist, pub and petrol station etc.

The petrol station may sometime run out of petrol during holiday season, so please ensure to fill up where possible on route.

Petrusville Petrol Station is around 20km from Vanderkloof and Orania Petrol Station around 40km away.

General Housekeeping notes to bear in mind:

We prefer not drink the water from the taps, even though most locals do.

Rather buy 10 liters (see canister above dishwasher) from the Karoo Kontrei Winkel in town.

Please use the very red button on the small remote to switch the sound bar on for the television and/or your own music.
The TV is switched on using the red button on the HI Sense remote.

DSTV channels are changed using the DSTV remote.

Air Conditioners:
There is an air conditioner in the kitchen and main bedroom which is easy to set to 'cool or heat' in the house. Do make sure the windows and doors are closed for maximum effect.

Select the Quick Option for a 29 minute wash and then push Power button on.
When the tune has played at the end, the screen will show CD which is the cool dry process.

Find the dishwashing tablets in the left side of the tall cupboard in kitchen.

Washing machine:
For quick loads please switch the machine to MINI and push the Start/Pause button on the black square panel. Should you be happy to wait around 2 hours for dirtier loads, use the Cotton Eco 40 degrees wash option.

Please close full bags tightly and leave outside the house under the kitchen or bathroom window.

Dustbin bags are collected every Monday, if left outside the yard on the pavement.

Breakages :
